Statement from the NJ-SPJ Board of Directors on Withdrawal of OPRA Amendments

Legislation

The Board of Directors of New Jersey Society of Professional Journalists issues the following statement in response to today’s announcement that A4045 was pulled from consideration:

We are glad that common sense and a commitment to government transparency prevailed in the Legislature on this day. We commend Speaker Coughlin for acknowledging how an open and transparent government is not only important for journalists, but a cross section of New Jerseyans who rely on OPRA requests in their individual or collective situations.

The New Jersey Society of Professional Journalists is ready and willing to meet with Sen. Sarlo, Asm. Danielsen, and others to share concerns and to work with them on the bill.
