The Hunterdon Review, part of New Jersey Hills Media Group, publishers of 25 weekly newspapers in northern New Jersey, published this letter from the Garden State Scholastic Press Association and the New Jersey Professional Chapter of the Society of Professional Journalists supporting New Voices, a bill before the New Jersey State Legislature that reinforces the rights of student journalists.

New Voices is the law of 14 states. The New Jersey State Senate approved it twice but it is tied up in the Assembly Education Committee. Its supporters don’t want to let it linger in committee when they believe it will pass when presented to the full Assembly.

We urge you to do what you can to support student journalists. Whether they enter the profession or become informed consumers of the news, they are our future.
