Quick Start Order Guide

Here’s the barest amount of information you need to renew your membership and press ID cards. Choose the level of membership you want for your renewal and click on that link. You don’t need to be logged in as a member to purchase these bundles. We will be vetting all orders to ensure valid memberships.

2024 Press ID Card Renewal with Full Membership in SPJ and NJ-SPJ

2024 Press ID Card Renewal with Associate Membership in SPJ and NJ-SPJ Membership

2024 Press ID Card Renewal with Student/Retiree (Over 62) Membership in SPJ and NJ-SPJ

With any of these bundles, your SPJ/NJ-SPJ membership will renew at the level selected for 12 months. If your membership expires in the middle of 2024, it will extend to the middle of 2025. If your membership extends beyond 2024, we’ll just extend it another 12 months.

If you know your membership is current at least through the end of 2024 and you don’t want to add another 12 months, you can use this link and just order press ID cards, but don’t use this if your membership expires during 2024 or sooner, because it will delay your order.

Shipping charges will be added to all orders. If you order a press ID card and a visor card, the shipping cost is $6.90. If you order more than one visor card or order a lanyard, the shipping cost is $15.11.

News Directors and Editors: If you need to submit multiple reporters for Press ID Cards, please download this spreadsheet, complete it and email to steve@statebroadcastnews.com. We will enter your multiple card order and send you an invoice for payment.

The biggest change this year is that we will not be offering the Working Press license plate frames.

We will continue to offer the reflective visor/dashboard cards, and you can order up to three visor cards.

If you often drive your vehicle to breaking news stories or to municipal meetings, we recommend that you get the laminated visor card.  

To renew or apply for your 2024 NJ Press ID Card, you must first renew SPJ/NJ-SPJ membership, for legal and insurance purposes. Right now, there is a flash sale!

Half the people who obtained NJ Press ID Cards last year chose an Associate Membership in the national Society of Professional Journalists (SPJ), while getting the required full membership in NJ-SPJ.  That’s the cheapest option and it is still available. But it is not the best value right now.

For a limited time, you can get a full SPJ membership at a reduced rate. It pays for itself, with many worthwhile benefits that Associate Members do not receive.  We particularly recommend the discounted Lexis/Nexis subscription, which truly elevates your work.  In addition, full SPJ members receive professional training and career support, while helping to defend journalists everywhere.

We do not know how long this Flash Sale will last. That is up to national SPJ. You should place your order today.

  • Associate SPJ Membership.  You get associate membership in national SPJ and full NJ-SPJ membership.  You are entitled to purchase a NJ-SPJ Press ID Card, but you will NOT receive most national benefits. $30. Shipping Charges Increased for 2024

Our shipping charges have increased because US Postal Service rates increased. For a basic order of a press ID card and a visor card, the shipping will be $6.90.

If your order includes any additional items, including a second visor card, or a lanyard, shipping and processing is $15.11 for two or three day priority mail. 

The US Postal Service charges a lot more once the parcel is not a flat envelope.  You will, however, receive your order more quickly and there will be a tracking number.  Most of our orders go out around the holidays and just after, so postal delivery times have been slow.
